A good starting point is a full detail every three to six months, adjusted for how you use your vehicle. A daily driver carrying kids, pets, and work gear may need attention sooner than a garage-kept car driven on weekends.
The goal is to stay ahead of buildup instead of waiting until every surface needs a deep cleaning.
A wash and a detail do different jobs
A maintenance wash handles everyday exterior dirt. A full detail gives more attention to wheels, door jambs, interior crevices, upholstery, and the surfaces you touch every day. Exactly what is included depends on the package.
Deep shampooing, heavy pet hair removal, paint polishing, and ceramic coating are separate needs. Booking a full detail does not automatically include every specialty service, so ask what your vehicle actually needs before choosing a package.
Let your vehicle help set the schedule
Think about what happens between cleanings. Does your car sit outside under trees? Do you regularly travel on gravel roads? Are the back seats home to snacks, sports equipment, or a shedding dog?
Those details matter more than the date on the calendar. A family SUV may need interior attention while its exterior still looks good. A lightly used car parked outside may have the opposite problem.
Walk around the vehicle occasionally and look inside the areas you usually overlook. Sticky cupholders, dirty seat seams, and heavily soiled mats are useful reminders to schedule a cleaning before the job grows. If the interior is your main concern, our guide to interior detailing for stains, pet hair, and odors explains what can be done.
Keep up with small jobs between appointments
Remove trash, vacuum loose debris, and address spills promptly. Keep washing the exterior between details, too. A detail months away is no reason to leave fresh contamination on the paint.
Your cleaning schedule should fit your routine and the condition you want to maintain. It does not need to be complicated or identical to someone else’s.
